Mind volunteer Phil Hamer wins major award

Phil Hamer scooped the title of Volunteer of The Year at the prestigious 2009 Heart of Salford Awards.Philip is the Treasurer of Mind in Salford and he dedicates many hours of his time to help the organisation and the people of Salford. He campaigns tirelessly for the improvement of local mental health services in the city. The Judges who included the Mayor of Salford Councillor Margaret Morris were amazed at Phil’s enduring hard work and dedication. His nominator manager Markus Greenwood said: “Philip is a fantastic role model, proving that you can have a worthwhile and influential place in the community despite personal difficulties. He is an inspiration to us all!”

On getting the awards Philip said “I was dumbfounded and shocked to receive this award, especially on hearing about the fantastic work of the other nominees. Volunteering has given me a sense of purpose which I feel is so important when going through hard times in one way or another as it gives life meaning. In these times of always reading bad news, it is nice to look around and see all the good that is happening in this great City of ours”.
