Rainbow Mind in Salford – Counselling Contract

  • Rainbow Mind is a collaborative service between Mind in the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest and Mind in Salford, aiming to tackle mental health issues for individuals within the LGBTQ+ community.
  • 1 to 1 LGBTQIA+ Counselling: These sessions are with our LGBTQIA+ therapists based in Salford with 8 free sessions being offered to discuss common mental health issues such as anxiety, low mood, questioning sexual orientation and/or gender identity, relationships, and the LGBTQIA+ experience in wider society.

Overview

  • This contract is an agreement between Rainbow Mind (hereafter referred to as "the Service") and the Client. It outlines the terms and conditions of the one-to-one therapy services provided by the Service. By signing this contract, both parties agree to uphold these terms in good faith to ensure a safe, professional, and supportive therapeutic relationship.

Your Counsellor/Therapist

  • The therapy will be delivered by a qualified and accredited therapist employed or contracted by Rainbow Mind. All therapists adhere to the ethical guidelines set by their professional regulatory body (e.g., BACP, UKCP, or HCPC). Their qualifications and professional memberships will be disclosed to the Client upon request..

 

Professional Standards & Requirements

  • Qualification Level: All therapists hold a minimum of a Level 4 qualification in counselling, psychotherapy, or a related field. This ensures that your therapist has received appropriate training and possesses the necessary skills to provide effective and ethical therapy.
  • Professional Membership: Our therapists are full members of a recognised professional organisation, such as the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), or an equivalent body. This demonstrates that your therapist adheres to ethical standards, engages in ongoing professional development, and is accountable in their practice.
  • Professional Behaviour: Your therapist will always demonstrate professionalism in all aspects of their work. This includes respectful and empathetic interactions, clear communication, and a collaborative approach to your therapy sessions.
  • Adherence to Ethical Guidelines: All therapists follow the ethical framework set by their professional organisation, such as the BACP or an equivalent body. This includes maintaining confidentiality, ensuring your welfare, and practising within the boundaries of their qualifications and competence.

Rainbow Mind Client Sessions Policy

  • Number of Sessions: Client’s will be offered 8 sessions as part of their engagement with Rainbow Mind
  • Session Length: Sessions last for 50 minutes
  • Frequency: Sessions are typically held weekly or as agreed between the Client and the therapist.
  • Delivery Method: Sessions can be offered both in person and online, if offered in Person, then room bookings will need to be made in advance. It is the therapists responsible to schedule sessions with their clients.
  • Midpoint Review: A review of the client’s progress in the therapeutic work should talk place during the 4th session.
  • Location: Sessions may take place in person, via telephone, or online using a secure platform.

Confidentiality

All sessions will be confidential, with the exception of where my therapist has serious concerns regarding threat of harm to myself or others and where they are under a legal obligation to disclose information, such as: knowledge of terrorist activity, money laundering - or if a Court Order is received and a legal obligation arises.

  • If the therapist believes the Client or another person is at risk of serious harm.
  • If there is a legal requirement to disclose information (e.g., court orders).
  • If the Client shares information about involvement in acts of terrorism or money laundering.
  • The therapist will, wherever possible, discuss any potential breach of confidentiality with the Client before taking action.

Research Consent

By participating in therapy services at Rainbow Mind, you acknowledge and agree that your information may be used for a research study in collaboration with the University of Manchester, focused on LGBTQIA+ mental health. This research aims to enhance understanding and improve mental health support for the LGBTQIA+ community. Any data used for the study will be anonymized and stripped of personally identifiable information to ensure your privacy and confidentiality.

Your participation in this study is entirely voluntary, and you have the right to withdraw consent at any time without affecting the therapy services you receive. If you choose to participate, you will be provided with further details about the research and asked for explicit consent before any data is used.

Session Attendance and Cancellation

Client Cancellation Policy

  • Cancellations: Clients must provide at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations to avoid losing the session. Cancellations should be made by emailing: - Rainbowmind@mindinsalford.org.uk
  • Ø Multiple Cancellations: 2 consecutive cancellations or 3 cancellations total will result in discharge from the current therapy sessions.
  • Did Not Attend (DNA) 2 DNA occurrences will also result in discharge.
  • Discharge: Clients who are discharged due to cancellations or DNAs will need to re-refer and go back on the waiting list, and wait for a new counsellor to be available, which may not be the same one as before, depending on availability.

Therapist Cancellation Policy:

  • The therapist will provide as much notice as possible in the unlikely event of needing to cancel a session.
  • In case of sudden illness or other unforeseen circumstances where the therapist cannot contact the client, a representative from Rainbow Mind will reach out on their behalf.

Contact between Sessions

  • Contact between sessions will be used for administration and agreed purposes only and not used as an extension of therapeutic work discussed in sessions.
  • Sessional Therapists do not work full time, so there may be a delay in response time, for this reason time sensitive, or urgent enquiries should be made directly to the Rainbow Mind in Salford:

In Person sessions

  • Sessions will take place in person at Mind in Salford, or another venue as agreed with your therapist.
  • Please arrive 5 minutes before your scheduled session time to allow for a smooth start.
  • Punctuality: It is important to be punctual for your appointment. If you arrive late, the session will still end at the scheduled time, and any lost time cannot be made up.

Online /telephone counselling

Session Format:

  • Sessions will take place via Zoom (or another agreed-upon platform).
  • We acknowledge that interruptions may occur during web/phone sessions and will both actively work to minimise these disruptions.

Handling Technology Issues:

  • If the session is affected by technology problems that hinder communication, both parties should:
  • Log out of the system/phone call.
  • Wait a few minutes.
  • Attempt to log back in or redial. If successful, the session will continue.

Internet Connection Issues:

  • If we are using video calling and either party loses their internet connection, after attempting the steps above:
  • The therapist will contact you by phone if the issue persists.

Telephone Session Problems:

  • If there are issues with the call during a telephone session, the therapist will contact you via phone call or will email you.

Privacy statement

This Privacy Policy lets you know how your personal information is being collected, stored, and shared and this is line with EU/UK General Data Protection Regulations.

 

Mind in Salford will use your contact details for running this service, including contacting you about appointments, sending you links to therapeutic resources and conducting online/telephone sessions.  They will not contact you for any other reason.

Mind in Salford will make every effort to keep all information confidential. Your personal information is stored securely and confidentially. They will keep basic records and brief therapy notes in a safe place for approx. six years, after which time they will be confidentially shredded.

You have the right to ask to see the information they hold about you, if you want to do this, please ask your therapist and you can view it together in a session. You can ask your therapist to change any information held about you that is incorrect. You have the right to ask your therapist to delete information that is held about you - which may be saved for monitoring purposes or where there is a legal obligation to keep.
