Become a Mental Health First Aid Champion

This one day course trains you as an Adult or Youth MHFA Champion, giving you: 

An understanding of common mental health issues  

Knowledge and confidence to advocate for mental health awareness

Ability to spot signs of mental ill health

Course Format & Content

  • One day face-to-face course 
  • Learning takes place through a mix of presentations, group discussions and workshop activities
  • We limit numbers to 16 people per course so that the instructor can keep people safe and supported while they learn

Adult MHFA Champion:

The Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England 1-day Champions course provides participants with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to raise mental health awareness, recognise signs of mental ill health, and support overall wellbeing.

The course follows the MHFA Action Plan and includes a mix of presentations, group discussions, and interactive activities. Participants will explore workplace stressors, understand the mental health continuum, and practise non-judgemental listening techniques.

Who is it for?

This course is suitable for anyone in the workplace or community organisations.

Youth MHFA Champion:

Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Champions are trained to spot signs of mental health issues in young people and guide them to appropriate support. They serve as a first point of contact for those experiencing mental health challenges or emotional distress, offering initial support and reassurance.

They provide vital early intervention by listening non-judgementally and directing young people to further help. They may also advocate for mental health within their school, supporting a whole-school wellbeing approach.

Youth MHFA equips professionals to recognize common signs of mental health issues and respond with confidence. The course covers:

Depression and anxiety

Suicide and psychosis

Self-harm and eating disorders

Youth MHFA Champions are trained to:

Spot early signs of mental ill health

Start supportive conversations with young people

Listen non-judgementally

Assess suicide and self-harm risks

Guide individuals to professional support or self-help

Escalate to emergency services if needed

Maintain confidentiality and protect themselves

This is a free, funded training opportunity with limited places being delivered in partnership with Salford City Council. If you register but do not attend without prior cancellation or a valid emergency, an invoice will be sent to your manager to cover the cost of your place.
